I said I'd never let you go, and I never did.
At dawn, the sky is tinted with beautiful pastels. The air is silent except for the quiet stirrings of the dove, the mockingbird as they rise to begin the day. Soft tweets fill the space with an airy music, sunlight filtering through the trees from an expanse of pink, purple, and blue. This is the optimum time to roam, as there is no time so peaceful as the beginning of the day. Senna carried through this forest with a light jog, dust quietly whirling around her hooves as they padded against the ground. The morning breeze and shade of the leaves provided sweet relief from what little heat was present at this time of day. Could she navigate her way without sight, she would close her eyes in a silent bliss. There was no better time to brush away memories of nightmares during her sleep than a morning jog. She began naturally to recall her nightmares: always of Sitara, always of Jaken...where were they? How were they faring, right now? Where they thinking of her? As her memories shifted to the parts of the nightmares recalling the demise of her mother and Adelphi, she abruptly shook her head to stave away the sorrows that clung to the memory. Not now, she would not think of such things. Never forgotten, but she would not be ruled by her past. At least, that was the goal...something she could never really achieve. Try as she might to release herself from the grasp of that night, she could not. She could only find relief in times like this, losing herself in the dawn or dusk.
Senna slowed to a sluggish walk as she came upon the borders of a crystalline river. The bottom of the shallow water glistened with a diamond-like sheen, pebbles reflecting golden sunlight to reflect off of her black chest, giving the golden band across her shoulders and chest an authentic glow, as if she was truly adorned in a necklace and bands across her lower legs. The light only emphasized the depth of her dark coat where it did not shine, her haunches and flanks appearing as if an inky silhouette amongst the woods. She watched the water's ebb and flow across rocks and trees that extended past the bank, a calmness settling over her with the whispers of the waves and small rapids. Could she throw her nightmares into this river? She visualized her nightmares flowing down the river along with the current, away from her mind and never to plague her again. Perhaps if the memories were washed away, her mother and sister would come back. Her herd would come back. Even Jaken, as cold as he had been, had not been without affection for Senna. Gruff and hard around the edges, he did care for the golden-marked filly and her sisters. And she for him, for that matter. Unfortunately, such fantasies could not be reality. Senna inhaled deeply, detecting the distant smell of fragrant apples, exhaling as she pictured her foolish wishes leaving with her breath. She forced her mind from the memories, allowing it to draw a peaceful blank. This was nice...this was solace. She allowed just a touch of a smile to pull at her lips, her eyes closed softly. This would be a place she frequented most often.
