The earth spun around the orange Queen as she galloped frantically through the ravine, heavy hooves stamping against the leaf-strewn sod like they hadn't in years. "Gehenna!" The Imperium Empress called out for her only daughter with every ounce of volume her voice would allow, sending her echoing tones over the bowl-land like a tidal wave. Atticus flew closeby, worried for his Queen. The bird had tried to keep tabs on the children of his mistress, but in his old age, his senses were not what they used to be. He had missed it as the red filly slunk out of Obascus under the cover of night, never to return. "I should have paid more attention. I was so selfish. I'm sorry, Gehenna. I'm sorry. Please... Please be alright. Nirvana spoke her apologies and pleas aloud, out of breath. Her violet eyes darted from one edge of the ravine to the other, searching for the familiar black stripes that adorned her own pelt; searching for the reddened coat of the Princess. She realized how neglectful she had been to her daughter, and for all she knew, Gehenna could be dead, or worse. Knowing her children, they probably wandered out of the lands or left the lands deliberately, not knowing what lied beyond the walls of the ravine. Styx had done it several times, and Nirvana had no reason to believe that Gehenna hadn't as well. The Imperium Empress quickly tried to remember which lands directly surrounded Obascus. The Pitt to the north. Armageddon and the Sanctuary to the east. Vahill to the south. The lands that lied west escaped Nirvana's memory, but she knew that the western wall of Obascus was the hardest to cross over, therefore Gehenna would have surely gone to one of the obvious exists, where the river flowed to and from other lands. The Queen's mind was whirring, enraged at herself for being so neglectful to her daughter, and to the only other child she still had left in these lands aside from her precious Styx. Nirvana halted and collapsed to the ground, a wave of worry flowing over her for her daughter's life and current condition. There were creatures that lied beyond Obascus that were deadly and manipulative, and if worse came to worst, Gehenna could be suffering at the hands of a rapist or sadist, fighting to stay alive, all because her mother didn't love her enough. But that wasn't true. Nirvana did love her. She was just so selfishly tending to making sure that Styx would be ready for the throne that she had forgotten to care about much else. Nirvana doubted herself these days. Maybe it really was time to let Styx take the kingdom from her. Maybe she didn't deserve it anymore. Blackened tendrils curled and splayed about the fallen witch's orange bodice as she began to sob. Atticus swooped down and stood near his Queen's heavy head as she finally let loose all of the anguish and rage that had been building up since Ranjit left with their son. The Queen rose her head and looked to her white bird with a teary expression, but a fire in her eyes. She would search for her daughter until she knew that she was safe and sound. Styx would have to finish his training on his own, she decided. words: 553 tagged: no one notes: don't reply, this is just a personal event |
