My silver eyes swept over the dark, frigid land of Cocytus, remembering the reasons as to why I left The Outlands, and coming to live in this forsaken terrain, nearly losing my life months ago to it's cold grip. I had come here to find relief from my mother's shadow for I did not want to live up to something I knew I was not capable of doing. Mother was to be the new Punisher soon as Novelty would step down by the next year. Now I looked across the frozen lake, ready to leave cocytus. A smile crossed my face as I ventured forward, knowing my father would not worry so much as my mother would have. My grey and violet hued bodice moved swiftly, ignoring the chill that ran up my pillars. The snow here was year round, and I hated it. Today I wanted to visit the nearby Imperium lands, and without any clue of who ruled what, I just prayed that I didn't walk into the lands of someone not fond of visitors.
The night was strong compared the the barely visible moon, it seemed like hours before I even started to see a different terrain. My flints began to click against stone, the snow was nearly gone and small streams of water flowed downward into a vast terrain of slate and pebbles. Moss covered much of the larger rocks, its was practically the only vegetation I could see, not like it mattered much to me though. In this different land I watched my footfalls, careful not to send pebbles descending down the hill, I didn't exactly look forward to meeting another equine here as in my exploration, I was trespassing, and I knew well that it could be a crime. The land was dead silent, very eerie and it almost made my spine crawl, looking over my shoulders for the set of eyes I felt on my back every few minutes. Mist grew thicker the farther down into the ravine I went, I wrapped my prehensile tail around my left hind, feeling a sense of security from it. Ahead I could hear a small creek, my throat was growing dry and and I swallowed back the little bit of saliva I had in my mouth. Quietly I moved towards it, forgetting for only a moment I wasn't at home and misstepped, tripping up and sending stones flying and clattering against rock and slate in which the sound echoed loudly. Catching myself before fell and made more noise, I waited in silence, for a good ten minutes or so, my harks swiveling forward and back, eyes darting all around. I looked and listened for any signs of other life approaching, holding my breath for the longest time and then taking deep, long, slow breaths before I thought it safe to continue onward.
Upon reaching the creek, I lowered my maw, the ice cold, but fresh water hit my lips, then my tongue, cooling my body and wetting my throat before hitting the pit of my stomach. Goosebumps rose on my skin as the water's chill rushed through my gut. The sensation of the cool water was wonderful, better then eating the snow that Cocytus provided. I took long drinks, stepping into the water and my feathers waving in the current. In those moments, I realized the night had passed, and the sun rose for the very first time since I had left the outlands. The sun was bright on my silvered oculars and I squinted against it to see. It was beautiful, the sun rising and turning the mist into a golden hue. Lifting my cranium from the water's surface, the water dripping from my chin, I gazed at the dawning sun in awe. I had forgotten what it looked like, to see the sun. Light filtered through the mist to the ground, everything had its own natural glow. I looked around, still in awe until a shimmering light under the water caught my attention. Intrigued I looked closer, a silver strand was caught around a rock at the bottom, attached to it was something that appeared to be a crescent moon. Slowly I reached into the creek once more, plunging nearly my entire face under the water and delicately grasped the silver strand between my jagged teeth, giving a slight tug, I pulled the item from the water. It tasted metallic-y, and I laid it out on the ground. Clearly it was not from this era, it was a necklace and very old. It was probably from the time when two-legs walked these lands. I heard the same nightmarish stories of things call humans that ruined the earth. All equines had once heard tales of these creatures, stories passed down for centuries intended to scare young foals. The necklace was beautiful and a strange find, a purple crescent moon hung from the silver and I carefully picked it up again, allowing it to hang from my jaw for now. I planned to add this to my small list of unnatural finds, however, This one I would wear.

Not a-fucking-gain. The red witchling was wide awake, pinked irises gleaming in the faint moonlight, glaring out into the abysmal, dense fog of her home. It was typical for the little brindled beast to wake just before dawn, her mind waking her into a world she didn't particularly care for. Her dreams were paradise, where her wishes were fulfilled: she was Queen, her brothers bowed to her. She would command them to do impossible feats, then slaughter them. She had been awakened yet again, and she was frustrated. The filly rose from her sleeping position and shook the dirt and bits of moss from her heavily brindled pelt. She looked as if she had been burned by seven thick whips, leaving permanent black, scrawling scars upon her back. Her birth had done the same, as far as she could see. She would amount to nothing at her current place in the hierarchy. Mother hated her. Father barely noticed her. All anyone cared about was the colts, preparing them for kingship and battle. She was a hunk of waste, nothing more.
Gehenna strode forth, toward the creek. She walked slowly, still tired. Suddenly, a loud, echoing racket came from the entrance wall. The crimson princess jerked her skull skyward and tried to look beyond the fog for whatever it was. All fell quiet again, and the little witch assumed it was just some deer tripping on a loose stone. She huffed a small snort, the high-pitched noise sounding far less than intimidating. Gehenna's skull went low and she walked wearily toward the creek, ready for some of that cool water, hoping it would relax her enough to get back to sleep. As she neared it, the sound of rushing water filled her small audits, relaxing her seemingly constant rage for a few moments. Then a purple monstrosity filled her gaze, and she halted, just feet from the creek. She raised her skull high and pinned her auds, watching the creature. It was another filly. Why, in all hell, was she so. Damn. Purple? Her tresses were long and curled, and she wore a strange adornment upon her crania, also purple, resembling the crescent moon that hung above the lands.
She stood there for a few moments, just staring, before finally opening her small, blackened maw to speak. "Uh," , Gehenna started, the eloquent princess she was, "Hey." She paused, raising a brow. Maybe she was still dreaming or some shit. "Do you live here?" She wondered if she should have approached this situation like her mother would, demanding the filly's business here, telling her to fess up or get out. It was too late to start over now. Whatever, she thought, as she watched the violet-haired bitch, wondering what she would do next. The red witchling was ready for whatever was thrown at her. She might be worthless in her parents' eyes, but she could throw a punch if she needed, especially at someone who would probably just trip on their hair.

It didn't take me long to fit the necklace over my ears with the help of my prehensile tail. I found myself looking into the stream, looking at the rippled reflection of my face with the necklace dangling on my forehead, admiring it for quite sometime. I found it odd that the piece of jewelry was purple, nearly the same exact shade as my own hair. Perhaps I was meant to find this? I stared into my reflection, it had been awhile since I'd actually looked at myself. I noticed my hair had become much longer, my body didn't look so disproportionate or as awkward as I use to. I was only six months old though, and I still had quite a bit of growing yet to do. I lost myself in my own thoughts, once again, forgetting where I was and had no idea the dark blood bay witch had been watching me. The bloody hued vixen's voice rang in my harks, alerting me of her presence. I did not jump, nor did I move to face my body to her, but simply turned my boa. My silvered oculars looked her up and down, noting her brindles and bright magenta orbs. She was a pretty filly, no older than myself and I allowed her words to register.
For a second, I considered lying to the filly, saying I have lived here my entire life, but I knew well that she would question me, and lies never allowed the rabbit to win the race. I also considered not speaking, but that would make it awkward and who the hell knew what would happen to me. Silently I looked her over once more and slowly turned my frame to her, allowing my prehensile tail to unravel from my hind left and flicker side to side gently behind me. [smear:700AEB]"No, I do not live here. I just wanted to get away from my home for awhile."[/smear:FFFFFF] I then noticed her staring at me and I gave her a small glare, as if asking her to look at me funny again, even though it amused me that others would stare at my strange coloring. My purple hues were always the first thing others noticed about me, or well not notice, but literally the only thing they look at. If my coloring hadn't veered them away from me, my specialize set of vocal chords that allowed me to the mimic the sounds of a gator or crocodile would usually do the trick. Allowing them to think I was a freak show. Bemused by the other filly I gave a light laugh,[smear:700AEB] "Your a funny one, aren't you? I am Noivern."[/smear:FFFFFF] I was hoping for some sort of friendly reply, hoping the filly would understand I wasn't attempting to intrude or anything.

G E H E N N A the sparrow's eyes... promises shift into judgments. i cannot deny that you were designed for my punishments.
The violet visitor's second tail unraveled from her hind leg, and Gehenna raised a brow, never having seen a tail like that before in her short life. The purple-tressed filly spoke, and the red-stained witchling was instantly angered. If she were Queen, she could order this intruder to leave. She could kill her on the spot if she felt like it. She imagined what that would be like, for a split second, seeing herself laughing as she stomped this young mare's adorned skull into the river, blood running down, down, down. She wanted to call for mother, say that there was an unwanted heathen drinking of their water, but she kept quiet. The trespassing purple thing gave its name, along with what Gehenna took as an insult. Funny? She saw nothing amusing about this conversation, except maybe that freakish fucking tail.
Gehenna kept herself at bay, or tried to, and forced out an awkward smile before clearing her small throat. She spoke, the kindness she tried to force outward paining her. "I'm Gehenna, the Empress's daughter." She paused, trying to look away from that weird tail that only had hair at its tip. She wondered where this bitch's home was that she wanted to get away from, treating the royal land like it was some sort of social gathering place. Sickening. "Are you of Imperium too?" The red-bay witch decided to ignore that funny comment, not wanting to mess with something that had a tail that could probably choke her if it wanted. Dawn was breaking over the walls of the ravine, and mother would be waking soon. She wouldn't wonder where her daughter was, though. No, that would be too kind of her. She only cared about Styx and his ascension to royalty. She only cared about Styx becoming a "good king." It made the little crimson hellion want to spit. One day, she would watch him fall, watch him fail. That would be the greatest day of her life. She waited for the purple trespasser to respond, blackened whipcord, not quite adult length, flicking at her hocks.

I looked at the blood hued witch, my silver oculars bore into hers, looking for something, some form of emotion that would tell me what this other soul had in mind, but her magenta eyes were unreadable. I listened to the wench speak, my eyes glossing over her black barred back and then back to her face. My harks turned forward, perking at the words of Empress and Daughter. I thought for a few moments, thinking of Empress Nirvana and her son Styx, the next in line for the throne and his other faintly remembered brother, Spawn. I knew the names from overhearing Witchcrypt and Father speaking of them. I didn't recall anything of a daughter or the name Gehenna. Either way I acknowledged Gehenna's royalty with a slight nod of my cranium, my new accessory moving slightly to the side of my face along with my wet, violet tressed forelock, making a slight, but audible jingle. The royal princess then ask of my own allegiance, and a small smirk lite up my maw, revealing the tips of pointed enamels. [smear:700AEB]"Yes, I am apart of the Imperium alliance. I didn't know Empress Nirvana even had a daughter."[/smear:FFFFFF] Only after the words left my mouth did I realize they could be taken as an insult, not my intention but I could not take back spoken words.
I stepped closer to the wicked princess, both of my tails slapping at a single mosquito on my flank. I wanted to get a closer look. Something about Gehenna drove my curiosity into the highest gear. My prehensile tail flickered closer to the flicka, longing to feel her pelt, but I kept my distant, not allowing myself to touch the magenta eyed witch. I silently made notes to myself, the fact the flicka was slightly smaller then I, no deformities that I could see. She seemed to be completely... normal. Instant jealousy wafted over me, I scoffed in my head, NORMAL! PFT! I had always wondered what it was like, to not be looked at and laughed about from simple genetics, despite the fact I always thought of myself as beautiful regardless. I then shook myself from these thoughts and opened my maw,[smear:700AEB]"Are visitors not allowed in the kingdom?"[/smear:FFFFFF] I asked, unsure what the policy was anyhow, so I figured i might as well ask.

G E H E N N A the sparrow's eyes... promises shift into judgments. i cannot deny that you were designed for my punishments.
A small nod was given from the purple-tressed filly, acknowledging that she was indeed a Princess, and Gehenna was pleased that someone would bow to her, in one way or another. She smiled a little for real this time, but it faded quickly as soon as the trespasser spoke. It didn't come as a total surprise. No one cared about her anyway. Gehenna knew this. A heavy pang of sadness ran through her anyway, but it quickly morphed to anger. The red-bay hellion's face crinkled into a rage-ridden scowl, but she did not speak. The visitor took a step closer, and Gehenna wanted to leap forth and attack and bite and scratch and tear flesh, but she did not. That weird, mostly-hairless tail inched closer to her, and Gehenna looked at it, ready to snap at it with her teeth if it tried to touch her. The brindled witchling's gaze snapped back to the silver visionaries of the purple-marked filly once words flowed from her maw again. Ah, a question. Gehenna would be able to educate this dunderhead.
The princess stretched her neck, leaning her skull from one side to the other, taking a moment to calm herself before speaking. She shifted her weight and exhaled heavily, paused, and then parted her onyx kissers. "Not many have heard of me, I wouldn't expect you to either, I guess." She looked at the crescent adornment upon the filly's crania, taking another moment to pause before addressing the purple-tressed visitor's question. "My mother is very particular about visitors. You're supposed to wait at the borders and call for her or someone to come greet you. Then, if you're not a threat, you can come in." Gehenna thrashed her tail against her flanks. She could turn this filly away, but wouldn't it be more fun to bring her to mother and say that she had captured an intruder? Maybe mother would have her banished, or maybe even executed! The witchling smiled a full, wicked smile, and spoke again, a giddy tone to her voice for the first time since she had met this duo-tailed mare. "But since you're already here, I guess you can stick around. I'm sure my mother won't have a problem. After all, you're part of our allegiance." She knew, deep down, that Nirvana wouldn't give two shits if this filly were in the lands or not. She only hoped that the Empress was as malicious as some Kings and Queens of old. The brindled princess waited then, her smile faded again, for the trespasser to speak, which would probably include more insults.

As I watched the bloody vixen facade reveal a rage ridden scowl, but I didn't move away, quietly waiting for her to speak. Gehenna then stretched out her neck, myself stepping back a little as she did. The filly then shifted her weight, the scowl disappearing as her kissers opened. Gehenna claimed that not many knew her and that she wasn't surprised, but I was. How could a queen announce her son, Styx so proudly, but not her other children? I barely even knew of Spawn, let alone Gehenna. Were there other children Empress Nirvana had that rltwian's didn't know of? I questioned burned into my skull but I forced myself to repress it. I had already insulted Gehenna enough, and I didn't need trouble, especially with the princess. Gehenna then spoke once more, my harks perking again and my adornment jingled. She spoke of the policy, that visitors were not allowed to come into the lands without permission and I watched her as a wicked grin streaked across her maw, her demeanor and voice suddenly changing as if the wind changed direction. I assumed she probably thought of something I would never be told, but as quickly as the grin appeared, it was gone in the blink of an eye.
Her magenta eyes blazed into mine, and I lifted my foreleg, stepping forward and then slowly I walked past the brindled, keeping my silver orbs on her. My prehensile tail moved in a flickering motion behind me while the tips of my other tail dragged on the ground, [smear:700AEB]"Sorry that I've offended you, I could tell by the look on your face. In all honesty, the reason why I'm here is well, home..."[/smear:FFFFFF] My voice cut off as I tried to figure out where home really was. I haven't seen my mother in a long time, so I couldn't call the outlands my home, I wasn't even apart of the allegiance there. And the place I now called 'home' was Cocytus. It didn't feel like home. It was always dark, and always so fucking cold. I hated the coldness most of all. Not only that but I barely knew any of the herd members that lived there, hell, even my own father really didn't treat me like his daughter. I sighed, a pang of sadness washing over me for a moment and lingered for a moment longer. [smear:700AEB]"Home.. is very lonely. I'm related to many there, but it doesn't feel like family, I.."[/smear:FFFFFF] I searched for the words that refused the leave the tip of my tongue to become a told truth. [smear:700AEB]"I'm beginning to hate home, I guess you could say."[/smear:FFFFFF] The words left my mouth and I didn't want to take them back. I found myself looking down, staring as the cold, wet slate under my flints and then looked back to Gehenna. My ashed lips gave her a faint smile, [smear:700AEB]"I don't suppose you care much to hear of my home though."[/smear:FFFFFF] I said, the faint smile leaving my lips as I grew quiet, waiting on the crimson princess's response.

G E H E N N A the sparrow's eyes... promises shift into judgments. i cannot deny that you were designed for my punishments.
The crimson witch flinched as Noivern moved past her, her magentine orbs narrowing their gaze. Then the trespasser spoke, and the Princess's expression relaxed. An apology? Was this the first time she had been apologized to? A wave of thankfulness swept over her. What a kind trespasser, she thought. All her life she had been the weaker, the ignored, the insulted. It was nice for someone to realize that they had hurt her feelings and try to atone for it. The purple-tressed filly's words cut short mid-sentence, and Gehenna threw a glance over her shoulder, waiting for the remainder. She spoke again, saying that she hated her home, or was beginning to. Gehenna could relate. She enjoyed the land of Obascus, maybe because she was her mother's daughter, and Nirvana loved this land more than most of her subjects. She hated those who lived here, though, never looking upon her as royalty like she deserved. Always passing their gazes over her to look admiringly at her brothers.
Noivern's voice faded and Gehenna let a small silence fall over the two before speaking, something she picked up from her mother. She decided not to let her thankfulness show, knowing that it would make her look weak, something she absolutely abhorred. "Where are you from?" Gehenna's tone was flat and emotionless. She did genuinely have an interest, but didn't want the grey mare to know it. Gehenna had barely left Obascus her entire life, and didn't know much of the surrounding lands, but knew enough from hearing about them through the grapevine to be able to recognize which was which by name. The kind part of her, buried deep within her psyche more often than not, wanted to offer Noivern to stay in Obascus, to make it her new home where she might be happier. But the Princess knew this was stupid, to offer a save haven to one she had only just met. She didn't really know anything about this mare yet, and had to keep her guard up. Maybe she was lying, and she was a spy from another allegiance, trying to find out some sort of classified information. Maybe Gehenna's choices now would determine the turning point of whether or not there would be a full-scale allegiance war. She only hoped that she could have that much power. The red witchling waited for Noivern to answer, standing quietly as the sun began to rise over the walls of the ravine, turning the sky shades of orange and yellow.

I looked over my shoulder as I passed the young princess, the air falling into a silence as I had nothing more to say. I felt jealousy over Gehenna, part of me wanted to throw her from that pedestal she sat upon and the other part of me wanted to admire her. Maybe it is because we are alike? No. We are far from being similar, I spat in my mind. Gehenna was the daughter of a queen, who's father was a king. They were all royalty. And what was I? Birthed from a mare who's cannibalistic mother had a fling with an insane stallion. My father and my mother's breeding was also peasant-like, inbreeding. Pathetic.
My mind flew back to the present as crimson bitch parted her lips, the words seeping out were flat and stoic. I considered telling her I was from Cocytus, but that was untrue, as I hadn't been to the lands since this morning and had no plans of returning. [smear:700AEB]"I was living in Cocytus as of this morning, however, I am never returning to those forsaken lands. I want to be somewhere that I feel I belong, where somebody actually wants me."[/smear:FFFFFF] My voice was stoic as well, washing away the emotion that I showed only moment ago. And I let the air fall silent again, a small sigh escaped my ashen lips and I lowered my head, bowing slightly for Gehenna, my prehensile tail curling around my left hind again, [smear:700AEB]"Well I suppose I should leave, perhaps we will meet again, Gehenna."[/smear:FFFFFF] The words left my maw and I turned away, pausing to see if she would say anything at all for only a moment and then I would make my leave
