the sparrow's eyes... promises shift into judgments.
i cannot deny that you were designed for my punishments.
Everyone liked her brothers. They were both strong, powerful, and wise beyond their years. The tiny blood-stained frame of the bay filly stood far from where her two brothers were sparring. Styx was the eldest, the heir to the throne, and Spawn was a stunning and wicked-looking creature, with wings that would surely grant him many privileges in his life. Gehenna was the weakling, the female, and she would never amount to anything, at least, not in the eyes of her parents. They loved her, but she knew she would always stand in the shadows of the more favored children. Gehenna gave a snort in frustration as she watched Styx attempt to teach the still relatively small Spawn a blocking technique he learned in his foalhood. Her mother and father were nearby, observing, their bright visionaries squinted, studying Styx's ability to teach, as well as Spawn's ability to learn. They had no interest in teaching their daughter to fight or to lead—they didn't need to. She would be a broodmare, a husk for children to grow within. She would be nothing. She would hold no leadership position, know not the ways of battle, and would be submissive under the hooves of many-a-stallion that wanted the precious genes she carried: those of who would become the "former" greats.
One day, Styx would rise to the throne, and Gehenna did not wish to see that day. She would rather be dead than see her brother, unworthy, take the throne that she should have instead. And if only she had not been born a twin! Maybe her mother would care more about her ability to fight then. Maybe she would be able to battle her half-brother to the death for the throne. But she had no chance now. Even if Styx were to die, Spawn would succeed him as heir, for he was the strongest, most capable of the children. The red filly wanted to cry. This was not a life she wished to live. "I hate them," the brindled filly cursed under her breath, magenta occulars fiery and livid. "I hate them so much." Her voice was small and timid, but so full of rage. She wanted to fight to the top, destroy her brothers, and succeed them in the place she was destined to be. It seemed that history had repeated itself, for this was the exact mindset that her mother, the renowned Empress Nirvana, had held so dear to her soul in her younger years. She regretted all of that now, but Gehenna would never speak of these desires to destroy, to kill. Nirvana could pass her story to her daughter, her first daughter, then, but that was not the path Gehenna wished to take. She plotted to flee from these lands as she imagined her brothers' mangled bodies bleeding at her feet.words: 472
