You grabbed me and tugged at my soul through your own
I knew it well then, we'd go down to the river
You'd cleanse what was left of me under the tide
The sun turned to ash and your body was withered
Your bones I let go and the dream did subside
I knew it well then, we'd go down to the river
You'd cleanse what was left of me under the tide
The sun turned to ash and your body was withered
Your bones I let go and the dream did subside
Spine moved effortlessly through the barren trees, all gnarled and leaning in towards her as if to gobble her up. Her lip was turned upward slightly in amusement, the dark forest seemed such a cliché to her and yet she felt as if she fit here. Perhaps she would stop and rest a bit; perhaps she would cease to wander at last. She raised her dainty face to the sky, noticing that it was beginning to darken and perhaps it would rain. The clouds looked heavy as they swirled above her and her nostrils flared slightly as she took in the scent of new spring and the possibility of rain. She stopped her slow advance turning toward a twisted tree nearly and reaching out to touch her nose to it, she felt kin with the tree all gnarled and ugly – just like she felt inside. She was an ugly person, she knew it, and no matter how pretty her appearance may be it could not disguise the hideousness she felt lurked within her soul. She peered down at her knees and the places where the fur would no longer grow back, her legs looked abused as if she had fallen on them time and time again. Of course she had not, the scars were all self-inflicted and she believed them beautiful. The only truly beautiful part about her, that imperfection that showed her sickened inside on the outside.
Lids covered caramel mocha eyes as her mind turned inside her head, a headache threatening as she tried to fight off the past but could not. Images flashed before her closed eyes and she suddenly could taste iron on her tongue, blood in her mouth. She tried to rid herself of the taste, opening and closing her mouth, grinding her teeth but it would not go. Her eyes were now clenched shut as she saw over and over again her own teeth ripping his throat, her mouth stealing his life from his body. She felt herself rear to the sky and her hooves crushing his ribs, pummeling his already dead body over and over again until her feet were stained with the red of his life. She lifted her head to the sky and screamed her torment to the world and when she opened her eyes once more she was screaming in reality. Her breaths were shallow and ragged, trying desperately to get enough oxygen into her panicked lungs. Suddenly the world was spinning and she was so overwhelmed. She felt so much inside of her and didn’t know what it was, it was just bad… so bad and she needed to get it out. Right now!
With desperation she reached around to her hind leg on her thigh, right above her knee and took her teeth to the flesh there. She paused relishing the tense pain before she ripped the skin off her bones. Her breathing slowed and now she was taking deep long breaths her caramel eyes focused on one thing. The red. The blood that now ran hot down her leg and as it exited her body so did all of that pain and anger. She was numb now, her emotions running out of her body with the blood. It was so beautiful trickling down her leg to pool by her feet. She again lifted her head to the sky and let out a deep relieved breath as she suddenly felt whole again, she was okay again. That was when the drops began, first slowly and then more quickly the rain washed down on her. Within moments her body was soaked, the rain washing her wound and disguising the blood that was already ebbing in its flow. She began to walk again, slowly and without purpose, as the rains became a sprinkle.
